The following frequently asked questions are common among those contemplating University of Malaya (UM). This page provides answers to these questions and provides links to useful UM websites that provide additional answers.


If I do not complete the registration subject online, what is the effect then?

All courses will be dropped from the Students Register and the student’s status will be changed from Active to Not Registered. Students with the status Not Register are not allowed to register in the next semester.

Why do i need to verify my registration?

Verification of subjects to ensure the courses registered are deemed correct for examination purposes.

How do i know the subjects that I need to register for each semester?

Please check the list of subjects in your handbook provided by the Academy/Faculty/Centre. Students can also check the list of courses in the Degree Programme Structure provided in the MyUM portal.

If I do not register for the course within the prescribed period, what should I do?

Students are required to write a letter of application to register for courses to the Dean / Director of the Academy / Faculty / Centre for verification. Later, you need to send the letter along with your attendance sheet to SKR.

If the subject I want to register is not available, where should I consult?

Please refer to the academic / faculty / centers offering the particular subject.

When registration can be done?

Normally, registration opened within 4 weeks before the semester begins and the first 2 weeks of lectures. Please check the registration website or portal MyUM (myum.um.edu.my) or refer to the SKR for more information.

Who can use this website?

All undergraduate students who are active in the University.

Why do I need to update the current address each time registration subject?

The University used the student’s current address in all official matter with students. Accurate and timely information is essential in order to facilitate transactions.

Why do I have to register for subject through online?

Students are responsible for registering the subject that have been set by the University every semester.

How to register subjects for undergraduate programs?

You can register only during the assigned access times based on your registration schedule through web register.um.edu.my.
