The International Relations programme in UM began in the 1970s under the Department of History. 1992, saw the establishment of the International Studies Programme under the partronage of the Dean's Office, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. In 1999, it was upgraded and recognized as the Department of International and Strategic Studies (JPAS).
The programme's objectives are to equip the students with the knowledge of international relations, foreign and security policy, particularly by examining emerging trends and long-term effects of both global and regional issues.
