In March 2002, HRH Sultan Azlan Muhibuddin Shah, the Chancellor of the University of Malaya inaugurated the Universiti Malaya Symphony Orchestra, breathing life into an artistic first for higher learning institutions in Malaysia.
Directed and conducted by Dr. Mohd. Nasir Hashim, the 120-member strong orchestra consisting of the University’s most talented students and staff has given several well-received concerts and recitals.
The University of Malaya Symphonic Orchestra periodically holds auditions for talented musicians to join their fold. Interested University of Malaya students who are non-music majors, upon displaying proficiency in any instrument of choice, are welcome to be part of this unique artistic experience.
