1. How far is University of Malaya (UM) from the centre of Kuala Lumpur
   
  UM is approximately 12 km from the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
   
2. How do I get to UM?
   
 
  From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
   
 
From the airport, the UM campus can be reached by KLIA Express Rail Link (28 minutes and RM35) or by taxi (about 1 hour and about RM65).
   
 
  KLIA Express Rail Link (ERL)
   
 
The KLIA Express Rail Link (or ERL) station is located on the ground floor of the airport. It will take 28 minutes to reach the KL Sentral Station (the nearest station to UM), where taxis are available for the journey (about 10 minutes) to the UM campus.
   
 
  Taxi
   
 
Students with a lot of luggage are advised to take a taxi directly from the airport to the campus. The journey will take about one hour to UM campus. Payment for taxis will be made by purchasing taxi coupons available from a counter just before you enter the arrivals hall, or at another counter in the arrivals hall.  Road
   
 
The UM campus is a short drive from the centre of Kuala Lumpur and is easily accessible via the Federal Highway and Jalan Universiti or via Jalan Pantai Baru.
   
 
 Putra Light Rail Transit (LRT)
   
 
Students and visitors travelling by the Putra Light Rail Transit (LRT) should disembark at the Universiti station. The Rapid KL Buses are available from the station to UM campus (the journey is about 3 minutes).
3. How much does it cost to survive in KL?
   
 
The daily living expenses depend on the needs and lifestyle of the individual. To ensure that students have enough financial provision before applying for admission, we estimate the cost of accommodation, food, local travel, living and other personal expenses for self-supporting single student to be a minimum of RM1,000 (USD 266).
   
4. Where can I stay?
   
 
The cheapest accommodation is on campus, sharing a room with one or two others, and using communal facilities. If you prefer to stay off campus, there is a wide range of accommodation to choose from in the vicinity of the campus e.g. Millennium Court (MC). Rents vary according to the type of accommodation, and how far away it is. You can visit the MC website at www.millenniumcourt.com

5. Should I get health insurance?
   
 
You can get treatment for minor ailments at very little cost at the Students’ Health Clinic on campus. However, you are strongly advised to take out your own medical insurance to cover yourself against unforeseen eventualities including a possible stay in a local hospital. You can obtain health insurance cover from local insurance companies.
