The Laboratory Animal Centre (LAC), Institute of Research Management & Monitoring, University of Malaya has been charged with providing quality laboratory animal care and use facilities, and assuring humane treatment for all laboratory animals used for teaching, research, training and biological testing in the campus grounds of University of Malaya. The services of LAC include animal procurement, import and quarantine facilities, maintenance and housing for experimental animals and resource and reference centre for laboratory animal science.
The LAC will be relocated from its current site at the Faculty of Medicine to the newly refurbished air-conditioned open-air conventional animal facility at Animal Farm, Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, near to Residential College 12. The facility consists of the office of the attending Veterinarian and service functions units like rodent, rabbit and monkey holding units, quarantine/ acclimation unit, procedure room, wash and sterilisation unit, storage areas, etc. The LAC planned to be commissioned and fully operational by mid-2017.
