  Programme Overview
 
  Media Studies entails the in-depth view on the world of mass communication, with emphasis on media content and structure, society and culture. Established in 1976, the Department was first known as the Creative and Descriptive Writing Programme.  In the 1993/1994 session, the name changed to Department of Media Studies, in line with the development of and new challenges in media and communication studies. 

The Department of Media Studies offers four major programmes:
  • Communication and Journalism Programme
  • Broadcasting and Film Programme
  • Publication and Multimedia Programme
  • Creative Writing and Professional Writing Programme
The department offers various courses ranging from Creative, Descriptive and Professional Writing, Communication and Media Studies, New Media and media Technology, Philosophy and Logic, Publishing and Multimedia, Public Relation, Broadcasting and Film Theory and Criticism.

The Department of Media Studies provides its students with knowledge and skills for the ample opportunities in the job market of journalism, public relations, advertising, publishing, creative writing filming and broadcasting.

The method of evaluation is through assignments, class test and final semester examinations. Students who major in the department is required to write a project paper whereby the evaluation will be based on the report produced.
