FIRST MALAYSIAN TO WIN THE PRESTIGIOUS J K WILLIAMS MEDAL SHARES FIVE STUDYING TIPS

Dr. Mohd Amir Mukhsin Zurin Adnan, Faculty of Dentistry, won the J K Williams Medal 2020 at the recent Membership in Orthodontics Examination, Royal College of Surgeons of England becoming the first Malaysian student and non-British student to win the medal.

Dr. Amir Mukhsin, who recently graduated with Master of Orthodontics from Universiti Malaya, serves as a lecturer at the Centre of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

In a recent interview, he outlined five tips for studying as a family man and lecturer. These are personalized study design, embracing the digital lifestyle, tolerance with spouse, optimizing time, and be fit mentally and physically.

“As a student whose wife is also studying, I think it is very important for us to design our own study technique and schedule a different study time which cater to our individual needs. I also made study easier by having all my notes and other reading materials in a cloud. This made me not having to carry papers or textbook which can be burdensome.

“As my wife also enroll in the same program, we always need to understand and tolerate each other. We do this by rotating our family-related assignments and divide time effectively.

“Lastly is to have a fit body and mind. As my daily commute to and from Universiti Malaya would take hours, I lost a significant amount of time, time that I used to spend running. Therefore, to still be able to exercise, I switched from running to skipping as it can be done anywhere,” he added.

The J K Williams Medal is awarded annually to the best candidate at the Intercollegiate Membership in Orthodontics Examination, which was known as the Bsso M.Orth Medal prior to the year 2000 and the Bos M.Orth Medal from the year 2001 – 2004.
