UM STUDENTS EXHIBIT CREATIVE WORK IN MOMENTUS 2019

A group of Universiti Malaya (UM) postgraduate students exhibited their creative work in Media Screening & Exhibition 2019 (MOMENTUS 2019) organised by the Department of Media and Communications Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This third annual Media Screening & Exhibition aims to showcase the final year projects of 26 postgraduate students from Masters of Media Studies programme. Based on a selection of themes, namely “Malaysia”, “Faith” and “Depression”, creative works such as short films, documentaries, awareness campaigns, concept books and portfolio websites were showcased at the exhibition.

All students have spent months preparing for the exhibition before presenting themselves to be responsive to the growing demands of creative solutions across local communities and the media industry. Visitors to this exhibition have had a unique opportunity to experience the dedication and critical enquiry that underpin the students’ work.

The Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Datuk Professor Dr. Danny Wong Tze Ken said that MOMENTUS 2019 provides hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for students and this will be very important to their professional development.

“The creative products they created can be important additions to their professional portfolios. I must also add that MOMENTUS 2019 is particularly special this year, as the event is also a part of the 60th anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,” he added.

“The media industry is expanding and there is a huge demand within the marketplace for design-thinking and creative approaches,” said Associate Professor Dr. Md Azalanshah Md Syed, Head of the Department.

“Through our academic programme, we are constantly cultivating innovation through collaboration. We encourage our students to engage with communities beyond the walls of the university and apply critical thinking across diverse disciplines and professions,” added him.
