Message from the Dean
Frontier Science Research Cluster (FSRC) spearheads initiatives and supports activities in basic fundamental research covering broad topics from the physical and biological sciences, medicine, and of the social sciences. FSRC engages Centres of Research (CoR) from all faculties to become our partners. Our efforts are to promote exploration and discovery of new knowledge that would benefit different fields of studies and to drive progress in applied sciences and other avenues that will be beneficial to wider communities.
FSRC promotes basic research through funding support under University of Malaya Research Grant (UMRG) provided by the Ministry of Higher Education through the Research University Grant initiative. University of Malaya Research Grant (UMRG) projects and programs receive applications coming from all disciplines, sharing a common objective aiming for exploring new knowledge. Recognizing the challenge of communicating basic research to a broader audience, FSRC collaborates with other research clusters to match or link researchers and interested parties within and outside the university to explore how the finding can be translated to more tangible outcomes, technologies, and real world solutions. This is done through organizing get-together events with participations from multi-disciplinary field of research. The FSRC also brings leading researches to speak at public seminar from time to time.
Researchers at the University of Malaya have long tradition of pioneering knowledge discovery and in addressing complex issues through in-depth studies and analysis. FSCR continues to assist our researchers in developing their expertise and also to ensure better visibility of their research. We aspire to see our researchers at Centres of Research (CoR) and the various faculties to become referral centres in their fields.
