Universiti Malaya (UM) established a collaboration with LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. when the organisations inked the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13 July 2022 was aimed to express the intention of both UM and LCP Buildsoft Technology to collaborate in promoting Work Integrated Learning (WIL) to enrich student’s learning experience through the innovation Work Integrated Learning lab, iWILL, an initiative led by Associate Prof. Dr Chiew Thiam Kian.
Specifically, through the MoU, both parties agreed to incorporate industrial projects in LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. into the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology students’ final year projects or courses. LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. is an experienced software development company operating and growing in the past decade, helping more than fifty customers in various industries like manufacturing, property development, trading and retail - transforming their businesses through innovative software development to keep up with the relevant digital solutions.
In the opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Loo Chu Kiong said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between FSKTM and LCP Buildsoft Technology marked an important milestone to form a stronger bond between the institution of higher learning and the industry to produce meaningful student-driven projects that contribute to the knowledge building and to applying the knowledge. This is perfectly aligned with the movement to transform the future of education, covering the ideas of Work-Integrated Learning, and managing the evolution of future education agenda such as paced education, axis flip and purpose learning, benefiting the university, the students and the communities through projects resolving real world problems by collaborating with industries. The Covid-19 pandemic gave the opportunity to transform traditional education for the next generation of not only the students but also the lecturers.
Representing UM, Professor Dato' Ir. Dr. Mohd. Hamdi Abd. Shukor, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaya signed the MoU; witnessed by Prof. Dr. Loo Chu Kiong, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology; and accompanied by Dr. Mohd Hairul Nizam Md Nasir, Head of Department of Software Engineering. Meanwhile, from LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd., the MoU was signed by the managing director Mr Henry Lim Chin Poo, witnessed by Mdm Yedda Lee Yee Yeng, software manager of LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd.
It is hoped that iWILL will enrich the learning experience in universities by making learning much more purposeful. This strong collaboration with LCP Buildsoft Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. will also help connect the 3 I’s around iWILL - individuals; the students, industries; the communities, and institutions; the university.
Witnessing the signing ceremony were the industry collaborators, students and lecturers in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya in the broadcast event in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the Concurrent Programming Competition to teach Concurrent Programming this semester using the innovation Work Integrated Learning Lab, iWILL approach.
