
Universiti Malaya (UM) recorded a strong and broad-based performance in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, led by a significant improvement in Education Studies, which re-entered the global Top 100.
In the latest edition, Education Studies leaped from the 101–125 band to Top 80, marking a notable milestone and reaffirming UM’s strength in teacher education, educational development and policy-relevant research.
In addition to this highlight, UM achieved one-band improvements in four other subject areas:
Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya, attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of the university community, and the unwavering commitment to continuously and consistently strive for improvements in all areas.

He also expressed appreciation for the continued support from UM’s Chancellor, Pro-Chancellors, Board of Directors, faculty members, operational staff, students, alumni, and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
